Staying healthy on the move! (Travelling)
Are you thinking about packing those bags and trotting around the globe? Are you a little worried about not being able to stay at your optimum during those long flights, uncomfortable bus journeys and tiring walks around the city? Well, do not despair as these helpful tips can give you the best advice on how to keep feeling your best during your travels!
Sufficient rest/sleep
Sleep is absolutely essential to maintaining great health. When you haven't had a good rest or just not enough rest, don't you find it hard to concentrate or even to function? When you rest your head on that pillow at night, your body gets to work by renewing and regenerating trillions of cells. Without good quality sleep or not a sufficient amount, you can find yourself experiencing a lowered immune system, brain fog, dysfunctional digestive system, weight gain and so forth! On the travel, you may find yourself on uncomfortable modes of transport; which may not allow you to have the best sleep; in these cases you may want to consider herbal sleeping pills and an eye mask! Whichever way you can achieve it, pack in at least 6-7 hours of rest to feel your optimum!
Hydration
Your body is an amazing machine which is made up of 80% water. If you are dehydrated your cognitive function can decline, digestion can be affected and your general wellbeing may be at a low! Catching airplanes and being in certain altitudes makes you more susceptible to dehydration so it is extremely important to hydrate with good quality water! Look for a water bottle with an in built filter and add electrolytes to your water especially when you're in hot climates!
Electrolytes consist of salts and minerals that conduct electrical impulses in the body. They control the fluid balance of the body and are extremely important in every major biochemical reaction in the body.
Grounding
We are electric beings literally! There is no magic, theory or illusion involved; it's all truth! The earth has an electric magnetic field and when we nestle our feet on lush green grass, silky white sands or dense earth, we connect with mother earth. Studies on grounding have proved that grounding has anti-inflammatory effects on the body and can uplift your mind! So if there is one, cost-free, healthy process that you can do for yourself on the move, it's kicking off your shoes and uniting with the earth's healing energies!
Probiotics
It was once thought that the brain was the most important organ of the body! However, the gut takes the winner for the most important! Have you experienced that griping pain after drinking water whilst travelling? Or perhaps you ate something which wasn't freshly prepared and have had to take some anti-biotics! The gut has direct relation to the health of the entire body, from the healthy functioning of the digestive system, to immunity and the health of your hair! Whilst travelling it would be recommended to have some probiotic capsules to top up on your good gut flora and improve overall health daily!
Charcoal
Charcoal has blown up as one of the most trendy, healthy ingredients to add to bread, ice cream and even toothpaste in recent years; however one amazing property that charcoal possesses is that it halts food poisoning. So be sure, to keep a packet with you which you can use for many different things or you can opt for charcoal capsules for ease.
Lots of fresh fruits & vegetables
This one is a given and everybody should know the mantra of eating at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day! However, whilst on the move you may be eating lots of quick, greasy and fast food! Seek out markets on the move to top up on fruit and vegetables to maintain glowing skin, sustained energy and an optimally functioning digestive system!
Meditation/ Breathing Exercise/ Qi gong/ Yoga
One day you're trekking up gigantic mountains, gorging on delicious foods, overwhelmed by extraordinary historic architecture and then you're off to the next town or city! Travelling has its perks, life is exciting, you're open to everything and things move fast but it can also leave you feeling lost without a foundation or consistency! Meditation, breathwork (wim hof method), Qi gong and Yoga are wonderful ways that can help you feel centered and in touch with the best version of yourself! So, discover a practice than you can do daily that makes you feel grounded, safe, secure and empowered!
