What to expect from a nutrition consultation?

When you go to see a nutritionist, you have made the choice to do so because you know that you can be in better health but just don't know how to achieve it. This is where a nutritionist comes in and is able to help you improve your health and wellbeing through a holistic manner.

Are you getting married soon and aim to fit into your dress? Or are you tired of feeling lethargic and want to finally get your spunk back? In the consultation this is your time to reveal to your nutritionist exactly what your needs are.

Health History Assessment:

The session usually begins with a discussion about your medical history, including any existing health conditions, medications, allergies, and lifestyle factors. I always like to go in-depth with my clients in order to know exactly what is happening currently but what has also happened in the past to determine who your are and how your health is today.

Dietary Habits:

You'll be asked about your typical eating patterns, preferences, and any challenges you face with your current diet. This may include questions about types of foods you consume, meal timing, portion sizes, and snacking habits. This is to understand exactly what needs to be changed or improved! So, no need to be embarrassed or self-conscious; I need you to be 100% transparent in order to help you become the best version of yourself.

Goal Setting:

Clearly define your health and nutrition goals. Whether it's weight management, improved athletic performance, managing a health condition, or general well-being, your goals will guide the development of your personalized nutrition plan.

Current Lifestyle:

We'll discuss your daily routine, work schedule, physical activity level, and sleep patterns. These factors provide insights into how your lifestyle may impact your nutritional needs. Everybody is so busy in London- running around with stress pumping through their veins hence the reason why it's so important for me to know all about your lifestyle in order to create the perfect plan for you.

Food Preferences and Dislikes:

Share your food preferences, dislikes, and any cultural or ethical considerations. This information helps in creating a nutrition plan that aligns with your tastes and values. There is absolutely no point in giving you recipes with salads that are ladened with lots of garlic and onions if you absolutely do not like these particular herbs! So I want to know all that you do like and don't like in order to create a plan that will satisfy your needs.

Nutrient Intake Evaluation:

The nutritionist may inquire about your intake of key nutrients, such as protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals. This helps assess whether your current diet meets your nutritional requirements.

Analysis of Current Challenges:

Identify any specific challenges or barriers you face in achieving your nutrition goals. This could include time constraints, emotional eating, or difficulty with meal planning.

Education and Guidance:

Receive information about nutrition principles, the importance of balanced meals, and the role of different nutrients in supporting overall health. I also like to address any misconceptions about diet and nutrition.

Individualized Nutrition Plan:

Based on the information gathered, I will develop a personalized nutrition plan tailored to your goals, dietary preferences, and lifestyle. We are all individuals, we process everything differently from life experiences, emotions to yes our food- this means that having an individualised nutrition plan will help you reach based on all of your quirks and individuality.

Meal and Snack Ideas:

I'll give you practical suggestions for meals and snacks that align with your nutrition plan. This may include recipe ideas, cooking tips, and guidance on portion control. These ideas will be delicious, nutrient dense bursting with lots of flavour and taste! So need to worry- there is that huge misconception that 'healthy food' also has to be tasteless, bland and flavourless!

Strategies:

We'll explore behavioural strategies to overcome challenges and develop healthier eating habits. This could involve discussing mindful eating, stress management, and goal-setting techniques.

Follow-Up Plans:

We'll discuss the frequency of follow-up sessions and ongoing support. Regular check-ins allow for adjustments to the nutrition plan based on your progress and changing needs. This also allows you to be supported and kept track on so that you feel motivated to achieve your goals. Essentially I want you to empower yourself to make these changes a life long implementation to your life; so follow ups are extremely important.

Q&A and Clarifications:

Have the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications about the nutrition recommendations provided. Many people have so many different misconceptions of health, wellbeing and nutrition based on old beliefs, things they've heard, fad diets and things that have been plastered all over the media. So take the chance to ask all that you want to know during your nutrition consultation.

A nutrition consultation is a collaborative process where you and I work together to develop a sustainable and effective plan to meet your health and wellness objectives. It's essential to be open and honest during the consultation to ensure the most accurate and beneficial guidance.
